Her hiatus was announced after she opened up on past sexual assaults. "I've been raped. By a significant other while we were together. And on a separate occasion, by the owner of a bar," she said. "I don't believe we live in a time where people can stay silent any longer. Not given the state our world is in with its blatant bigotry and sexism."
She revealed her dark past following Donald Trump's victory. She joined fellow actress Emmy Rossum who also admitted to being a rape survivor after the November 8 election. "I am sad," Rossum said. "I am a woman. I am Jewish. I am marrying an Arab American. My sister in law is handicapped. I'm a victim of sexual violence. It's personal."
