Wonder Woman Fans Protest as the Superheroine's Stripped Off Tittle as U.N. Ambassador

After learning that Wonder Woman is removed from U.N. ambassadorship, fans launch a petition urging the U.N. to keep the heroine as an honorary Ambassador.

About 1,100 fans have signed a petition to keep Wonder Woman as a U.N. Ambassador for the empowerment of women. They firmly agreed that the DC female character deserves the honorable title, on the basis that she represents feminism, equality, peace and justice. Chloe Behrens, one of the fans, wrote on Change.org that Wonder Woman is so much more than her appearance, which was the core of her dismissal.

"Their reasons are because 'she is large breasted, white woman of impossible proportions, scantily clad in a shimmery, thigh-baring body suit,' " she wrote. She firmly stated that Wonder Woman is not merely such woman, and "anyone who knows Wonder Women understands what she does advocates for the peace, freedom, and rights of all people around the world," just what the U.N. needs.

Wonder Woman was given the title earlier this year. But after many complaints about her sexualized image, a petition was launched on Petition Site, asking the U.N. to reconsider the selection. 45,000 people supported the petition. "It is alarming that the United Nations would consider using a character with an overtly sexualized image at a time when the headline news in United States and the world is the objectification of women and girls," the petition read.

Wonder Woman is one of few female characters in DC Universe. An Amazonian woman and an ex-nurse who fights for the world, she has been idolized and admired by young girls who'd love to be in her place. The heroine was portrayed by Lynda Carter on a TV series released in 1975. Gal Gadot plays the new version of the Amazonian princess and will star in 2017's movie "Wonder Woman".
